aaaand WOW! It sure does go now! I’ve got an 89 octane efficiency as well as performance tune loaded. Naturally I’m currently running the performance tune. Reportedly (based on dyno’s) it adds at least 40 horsepower and at least that much in torque (stock is 365/350 at crank ). I believe p eople have also reported a sub 5s 0-60.
It also firms up the shifts and holds the torque all the way up to a shift, whereas stock tapers it off. During normal driving the car behaves largely the same, but if I step on it even little bit it pulls a lot stronger and at 80-90% throttle it’s a damn rocket-barge (this is still a large vehicle after all).
I haven’t full-throttle on it yet, I want to do another fill-up to make sure I’m solidly at 89 octane rating. I also had to replace the spark plugs to make sure I was gapped at .030 and boy were they needed, regardless, check out the picture below . It was fun to actually wrench on my car a little, don’t get to do that often, the spark plug job wasn’t bad at all, apart from the awkward leaning over the engine bay to get at the rear ones.
I still have downpipes to install which should be good for quite a bit more power, beyond that I’m mulling over meth-injection.

Iso want a newer sho as my next DD. I’ve heard good things about the Livernois tune.

Yes, I’ve heard nothing but good things.
I personally went with Unleashed tuning since there’s a little more freedom in the aftermarket parts you can put on your engine, they have you data-log the car with your tuner and adjust based on that for your new parts.
Whereas with Livernois it all gets a bit more spendy for a meth-install for instance, they want you to use their parts.
As for a SHO as your DD, it’s a great car as long as you aren’t looking for a corner carver, it’s got a great ride, the AWD is nice, it’s nice and quiet inside and that 3.5EB really has a lot of power, especially with a tune. I hear the as for which one to get, IMO it’s all about if you prefer the styling of the ‘10-’12 or ‘13+. I bought my ‘10 in early ‘13, so I wasn’t faced with that decision, haha.

Hmmm good info. Thanks and keep us posted on your mods that meth kit sounds fun.

Yeah, they do sound fun! Most people seem to start introducing it at about 8psi of boost and have it come on fully at 10psi. Raises the octane level and actually has the engine running safer, as long as you don’t run out! Haha.
Anything else you’d like to know about these cars? I’ve owned mine for about 5-6 years now.

Is the trans a weak link? Any thing to watch out for?
Thanks

Owner of a 2015 SHO here, I run Unleashed as well, Torrie is a great tuner and a good guy, he will take care of you. As far as failure points, your biggest concern should be the PTU, but if you change the fluid in it fairly often, even though Ford said it was a “lifetime” fluid, you’ll be fine. Most people say don’t go above 500HP because you run the risk of grenading the PTU.
As far as performance goes I’ve had mine tuned for a few months now and it has been great, adds quite a bit of pep, and can be quite fun when at the track or even just merging on the highway. And I typically can hit 60 on 91 octane in around 4.5-4.8 seconds, 93 is better if available. I also have a tune from Unleashed for e30 blend and it wakes it up some more as well, fun at the local drag strip if people haven’t seen one tuned yet.

- Ford says the PTU fluid is good for life, but it’s not, if left unchanged the unit prone to failure (power take off unit, sends power to rear wheels).
- ‘10-’12 will inevitably lose their chrome around the tail lights. I’m planning on just painting it vinyl wrapping it black.
- The only major repair I’ve had to do was one turbo closely followed by the other at around 85k miles. Other than that brakes and oil changes.
- Gas mileage for me hovers around 22 mpg with a mix of city and hwy (skewing to hwy), on road trips I’ve seen as high as 28. I’m excited to see how it will do now that I have a tune. But I won’t know for a while, because for now I’m enjoy the added power too much, haha.

I’m very interested to see what happens when I take mine to the drag strip, whether or not people will know what it is.

Thanks pretty much what I’ve heard.
The want is growing.
